Tips when launching contests in your online store

Holding raffles and/or contests in your store is a good strategy to increase visits. However, they must be done correctly if we do not want to be disappointed.

Here are 6 tips to increase your chances of success.

1.- Simple conditions of participation

The entry process should not be too bothersome and the requirements to enter the promotion should not require too much time. For example, users do not like to fill out registration forms, and they may give up participating if they see that they are going to waste too much time doing so.

To make sure it's not difficult to participate, you can try sending the promotion to a few people before launching it. If you see that they ask too many questions about how to participate, adjustments should be made.

2.- Offer an appropriate prize

The prize offered greatly influences the participation that the contest will have, obviously it has to be related to the theme of your website and must attract attention.

Furthermore, if the value is not attractive enough to users, they will lose interest in participating.

3.- Make a good marketing strategy

Spreading the contest solely and exclusively through social networks is not always enough.
Some people do not have Facebook or Twitter or do not want you to access their private information, therefore some alternative participation method must be offered.
It's a good idea to send emails inviting people to participate.

We must also know how to identify the type of audience we want or we may end up marketing to the wrong audience, leading to the arrival of many people who are only interested in the contest and care very little about the theme of the store.

4.- Choose the duration and date well

We must avoid launching the contest on festive dates (Christmas, New Year, Easter...), because people may be on vacation, not using the PC and/or reunited with their family.

On the other hand, if the promotion is not carried out for a sufficient period of time, there will not be the necessary number of entries to carry it out. Nor should we prolong it too much if we do not want registered people to complain or withdraw their participation.
The recommended time is from 2 weeks to, maximum, 1 month.

5.- Test that it works

You must prove that the promotion works correctly in the most used web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari...), since your contest may fail if it is impossible for users to enter directly.

It also has to work on smartphones and tablets, which currently represent 15% of all Internet traffic.

6.- Set appropriate objectives

We have to put our feet on the Earth and know the reach we can have. If we do not set realistic objectives we may end up thinking that the promotion has been a failure when, in reality, it has not been entirely negative.

Expectations can also be increased little by little according to promotions that we have previously carried out.
