NSS Labs has conducted a study of the protection offered by the five main browsers (Apple Safari 5, Google Chrome 25/26, Microsoft Internet Explorer 10, Mozilla Firefox and Opera 19 12) against malware.

Although the security of Chrome has improved significantly (83% downloads blocked), Internet Explorer 10 continues to outperform other browsers with a 99,96% malware blocking rate. Safari, Firefox, and Opera remain far behind Chrome and Internet Explorer with overall blocking rates of 10.16%, 9.92%, and 1.87%, respectively.

According to NSS Labs, the reason for the high effectiveness of Google Chrome and Internet Explorer in blocking malware is due to protection techniques based on the reputation of websites; For their part, the other three browsers are based on blacklists. However, the effectiveness of the protection provided by both browsers has a major drawback, and that is that they also produce more false positives or safe sites reported as malicious, and it may also happen that malicious websites that do not appear to be so can be passed off as safe.

In all cases, the user's good judgment will always have the last word in malware prevention. Helps you with your website, contact us
