Specifically a week ago at IndianWebs we were talking about the revolution that Meerkat was causing, an application that allowed the possibility of publishing streaming videos through Twitter. The furor that this app was beginning to generate bothered Twitter, which decided to put limitations, ensuring that it was for sanity and not fear.
However, they have taken a step further from there. They put aside the limitations and make official something that had been sung, the launch of Periscope. An application that also allows streaming, something that has become a phenomenon in recent weeks.
According to Techcrunch, the blue bird social network would have bought Periscope for 100 million dollars, which in euros would be about 90 million. They intend for the dynamic to be the same as Vine, that is, to operate as a completely independent company and application despite belonging to Twitter.
From now on, this app allows the broadcast of live videos through a link on Twitter. Very simple process that only requires one or two clicks. This platform is accessed with the Twitter account. Once logged in, the active streams appear and a little further down they would be followed by those that have already finished but that the broadcaster allows to be played again, an innovative and differentiating aspect of Meerkat. Furthermore, another aspect that differs from its main competitor is the possibility of sending "likes", a factor that can help the broadcaster when deciding whether to leave the video or remove it.
This application, like Meerkat, is only available for iOS. However, the company points out that in a few weeks it will be available to download on Android.
