Clubhouse: How it works and how to join

Created in March 2020 by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, it initially started quietly, until the participation of well-known influencers such as Elon Musk, Jared Leto, Drake and Oprah Winfrey caused its notoriety to grow exponentially, reaching 5 million. registered in a short time. Today the platform is valued at no less than 1.000 billion dollars (a value that is not at all obvious, since for now it only accepts subscribers by invitation).

How to join Clubhouse

To join Clubhouse we must be at least 18 years old and have an iPhone device.

The iPhone app is currently available for download, but sooner or later it will land on Android.

In fact, the founders want to gradually build a community that becomes more consistent over time.

However, there is currently no release of an Android version. The platform has made it known instead of wanting to work on a version for Playstore. Even so, I encourage you to look at those who have Android, since at any time we can see it in the Android version.

A special feature of the platform is that, at the moment, We cannot join Clubhouse without an invitation.

For now, therefore, we can receive an invitation from an acquaintance via SMS, or install the application and wait for one of our friends to invite us. Each member initially has two invitations available.

Once inside we can create our bio and enter the profile photo and telephone number, to start participating in the rooms that interest us.

Clubhouse – What is it?

Clubhouse is governed as a new sharing experience based on audio content and voice interaction. We can witness group discussions on countless topics: from music to politics, from marketing to economics.

In short, Clubhouse could be defined as a social network aimed exclusively at audio content. While other platforms have gone the multimedia route (integrating images, audio, video, and other materials), Clubhouse essentially hosts voice discussions, audio chats, and podcasts.

In their own words, it is << “a new type of voice-based social product that allows people around the world to talk, tell stories, develop ideas, deepen friendships and meet new and interesting people.”

Clubhouse appears to us a little like a huge podcast always active and open to all who are subscribed to the platform. It is undoubtedly interesting for those who work primarily with audio content, such as broadcasters and podcasters, and on Clubhouse you can find many people interested in your type of content.

Clubhouse – How does it work?

The browsing experience on this platform is very different from that of Facebook and Twitter. The only content is vocal, there are no videos, text or images.

The platform is divided into rooms, practically live voice conferences, focused on specific topics. Each user can then choose the discussion room closest to their preferences. The person who activated the room speaks on the assigned topic and participating users can only listen.

Subscribers, if they wish to participate, must click on the icon that corresponds to a virtual heads-up. Each room can accommodate up to 5.000 users. Participants can unsubscribe without notice at any time by clicking the “quietly exit” button.

At the top there is the search icon to identify Rooms of interest to us. The Invite command allows us to invite other people to join. The Next for you element informs us of the rooms planned for the day. Activity reports, basic notifications and, of course, we can access the settings icon of our profile.

Subscribers to this platform can enter and exit each “room” to simply listen to what is being said. , as well as intervene and speak.

The Rooms are characterized by three levels: Open, Social, Closed.
The open room is visible to everyone and anyone can enter.
The Social room is accessible only if we have some of our contacts within it.
The closed room is only accessible by invitation.

Rooms are created by administrators and managed by moderators. Moderators decide who and how many people to talk to at any given time.

As soon as you click on an accessible room, you enter it and listen to what they tell you.

To reserve to speak you must "raise your hand" that appears in the room.

When the rooms are closed by the organizers, the contents disappear, leaving no history behind. It is therefore an incentive to participate in the moment, and “for the moment.”

Please also note that, for the moment, audio content cannot be exported from the application, under penalty of user ban. So the entire Clubhouse model seems to have been designed for real-time engagement in virtual hangouts. An additional tool to those we already have to meet other people with similar tastes to ours and exchange opinions and information.

As you can see, Clubhouse is a truly expanding platform. Over time, it will undoubtedly become even more popular and developers will develop new strategies to improve user information for commercial purposes.

Por el momento There are no methods to monetize information directly, an aspect that will also become more crucial depending on how the platform will comply with the privacy obligations imposed by the GDPR.
