Boredom takes over Facebook

Facebook and the term boredom are becoming closer and this can harm Mark Zuckerberg's application. The creator of this social network has recognized that the capacity of attraction is diluting: "We believe that some of our users, especially young people, are up to date and actively look for other similar products or as a substitute for Facebook."

María Rodríguez, an Internet strategy consultant, believes that boredom is due to a change in trend. More colloquially we could say that the "fashion" effect has already passed us by. It doesn't look good to reject that neighbor from the fifth floor who turns out to be a bore or that girl with whom you met in a course and who in the long run turns out to have nothing to do with you, "she pointed out.

César Calderón, executive director of Think Net Pensamiento Público, points out that the turning point has been determined by the business world: ""The business world is coming to the conclusion that trying to sell its products through this social network is expensive and tremendously complicated, with success rates lower than those of the more traditional website."

David de Ugarte, a strategist at the Electronic Indies Society, thinks Facebook is losing weight in terms of success because it has tried to cover the entire market. It started out as a blog, but in the long run, teenagers find Tumblr or WordPress more practical for publishing content. Furthermore, we are currently "dominated" by smartphones and exclusive applications for these devices, such as Instagram and Pinterest, are the main focus of attention.

However, Zuckerberg's concern is relative. He knows that the application that came to life thanks to him looks less, but he has in his possession the one that looks the most and the one that has the most capacity to continue doing so. A few months ago Facebook bought Instagram for 765 million euros. The CEO, who knows the potential of this social network, noted: "Among the applications whose ability to engage users is growing the most is Instagram."

The head of social networks at Ofilvy Spain, Mauro Fuentes, reads between the lines and is sure that it is all a strategy to make Instagram grow. They have to make the purchase profitable and give it value. Facebook is already clear about its segmentation and is established as an advertising medium, "he pointed out.

Mark Zuckerberg has a problem but he only needs to look askance to see the solution. We will see if the growth of Instagram is linked to the revival of Facebook or if, on the contrary, the revival does not occur and Instagram begins to lead the world of social networks.
