Google, the Internet search engine, has made public its new bet to try to steal market from Microsoft. The search engine is finalizing the details of Google Chrome, its web browser, which will be available today in more than 100 countries in its trial version. According to the company, it is a much faster program than its competitors for managing pages rich in videos and images.
"What we really need is not a browser, but a modern platform for portals and applications, and that is what we wanted to design," said Sindar Pichai, vice president for product management in a company blog. Chrome will be available starting today with its open source code, allowing any programmer to develop their own applications.
Hunting for the Explorer
The Internet giant's announcement has been interpreted by the specialized press as Google's entry into the domains of Microsoft, a company that grew to become a leader thanks to its Windows operating system and its browser, Explorer. Currently, the company created by Bill Gates has 72% of the browser market thanks to its Explorer. It is followed by Mozilla's Firefox with 20%, and Apple's Safari, with 6,4%.
Chrome aims to take percentages away from these programs. To this end, the search engine's designers have developed a browser that is "simple, simple and fast" in appearance, but with a configuration prepared to accommodate the applications that populate the network. One of its functions is that it isolates each web page that you open, to prevent it from collapsing the rest if it is blocked.
On the company blog, the managers announced that the version that is distributed starting today will be only the beginning, since they will open a discussion forum to improve it before its final launch. Mac and Linux will also have versions of Chrome.
