DECEMBER 2011 Website: El Mirador

The Sant Just Viewpoint is a recreational space with a restaurant located in the chimney of the old “Sanson” cement factory, in Sant Just Desvern, next to the emblematic building  Walden 7 and next to the architecture workshop of Ricardo Bofill.

The tallest concrete chimney in Europe at the time, was designed by engineer Clifford Tomlinson, and began operating in 1924. In 1968, the factory facilities were moved to their current location in Sant Feliu de Llobregat. Once the facilities were left free, they became supervised by the Barcelona Provincial Council, which in the mid-80s began remodeling and repairing the chimney. The company that carried out these works was Sapric with Mr. Villanueva (chief engineer) at the helm, thus recovering the 105m level. high that the wear and tear of the factory had deteriorated. Subsequently, in October 1996, the spectacular project by architect Alfred Arribas was inaugurated, who began the reconversion works of the old factory, silos and chimney, later the work was awarded to the architect and designer Joan Font, who imagined four well-differentiated spaces where the spectacle, the surprise, the trompe l'oeil and the rigor are mixed in a unique and amazing fantasy.
