Various historians affirm that the castle of Sant Marçal or Cerdanyola may have its origin in the first third of the 11th century, at which time the church of Sant Marçal is already documented, but the castle is not clearly mentioned until the first half of the 12th century in which Ramón Berenguer IV included it among the assets donated to his seneschal Ramón Guillén de Montcada, Viscount of Béarn, which together with other castles became the domains of Montcada. The house of Montcada in these times was closely linked to the county house of Barcelona, this was not an obstacle to differences and even confrontations that went as far as cutting the county irrigation canal and leaving Barcelona without water.
Marimón de Plegamans is the initiator of the Marimón family from which the current owners are descendants. Romeu de Marimón in 1275 served as veguer of Barcelona, he intervened in the construction of the walls, the Montcada castle was entrusted to him, which he also renovated and he intervened in the construction of the Barcelona shipyards.
